Cereus

Night Blooming Cereus (Epiphyllum oxypetalum), is widespread in the American tropics, but seems to grow well in Brooklyn with eastern light. The stems are 3-winged and green with wings that are 1 to 2 inches wide. They climb by use of aerial roots and can reach a height 30 feet or more growing on rocks and trees. Mine are about 3 feet high. The bloom starts in the evening and lasts all night long, closing up in the morning light.
